NewPath Unveils Residential Program Expansion as Answer to Ohio’s Growing Needs

CINCINNATI, Ohio (MAY 2026)—NewPath Child & Family Solutions is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, May 21, from 3:30-5:00 pm at its East Campus, located at 274 Sutton Road in Cincinnati, to unveil the expansion of its Residential Interventions Services.

This expansion allows us to reach more children with the intensive, around-the-clock therapeutic support they need to thrive,” said Eric Cummins, CEO of NewPath. Our goal is to help each client build skills for safety, connection, and emotional regulation so they can move toward a less restrictive setting and a brighter future.

NewPath’s Residential Interventions program is a comprehensive, trauma-informed mental health program designed for youth who have experienced significant childhood trauma. The program emphasizes emotional well-being, social development, and safety, offering 24/7, year-round intensive care. A multidisciplinary clinical team delivers services within a structured daily routine rooted in trauma-informed care principles.

Over the past few years, NewPath reported a more than 300% increase in Residential program referrals from 230 to 949 annually. The average length of stay in NewPath’s Residential program is 101 days. Children and teens referred to the program often struggle to regulate their behavior in a traditional home setting and, on average, have experienced 8 prior home placements.

The youth in Residential Interventions often arrive with significant trauma histories and complex mental and behavioral health challenges, including depression and suicidal ideation, said Dr. Joe Rieman, NewPath’s Chief Medical Officer.Expanding this program means more youth can receive comprehensive, trauma-informed care in a setting designed for safety, stabilization, and healing.

Expansion Highlights:

  • Addition of 16 beds through renovation and a new 1,850-square-foot building
  • Conversion of an unfinished basement into a therapeutic gathering space, complete with a restroom and sensory room, through a large renovation project

The expansion includes the creation of a sixth residential unit at the East Campus, directly addressing the rising demand for placements. Across Ohio, over 100 essential beds have been lost due to program closures by local organizations, making this expansion especially vital for our community.

The need for intensive youth mental health services is rapidly growing in our region,” said Tricia Mullins, Chief Operations & Impact Officer. This expansion reflects thoughtful stewardship of resources in support of our mission. By investing in added residential capacity, we’re strengthening long-term sustainability while responding to a clear and growing need.
