YOU Can Change Lives!

Become a Licensed Foster Parent

Have you ever considered becoming a licensed foster parent or beginning the foster-to-adopt process? Read along, share on social media or send it to a friend to explore whether becoming a foster parent is for you!

The Growing Need for Foster Parents

NewPath Child & Family Solutions (formerly St. Joseph Orphanage) has supported children and families for over 194 years, with over 34 years as a foster care agency. The community’s needs have grown over the last several years, and the growing demand for foster parents has become apparent. Thousands of children in foster care need homes. NewPath understands the importance of offering our foster children and families the support and guidance they need. Our services provide care for families and children of all ages with all levels of mental and behavioral health concerns.

As a foster or adoptive parent, you will provide a nurturing, stable home for children who cannot stay with their previous families. You will truly make a difference in their lives by restoring their hope and sense of stability. The most rewarding part of becoming a foster parent is watching children grow, recover, and thrive in your home while their families heal. As an adoptive parent, you become a child’s forever home.

At NewPath, we not only provide services to those who need them most, but we also advocate for the children and families we support and act as a safe place inclusive of all races, genders, and identities. In Ohio, there are currently 16,000 youth in foster care and only 6,000 foster parents. Now more than ever, foster youth need safe and loving homes

Trauma-Informed Child Welfare Saves Lives

According to a study by Child Trends, “More than two-thirds of children in the United States experience a traumatic event or circumstances—such as abuse or neglect, death of a loved one, or community violence—by the time they turn 16.” Answering this need, NewPath Child & Family Solutions (formerly St. Joseph Orphanage) ignites hope and changes futures by providing access to and results from expert, specialized, and comprehensive trauma-informed care.

WHAT IS TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE?

Trauma-informed care consists of a therapeutic approach that understands the impacts of trauma, recognizes the signs and symptoms of those affected, and actively utilizes expert knowledge to create a path toward recovery and healing.

  1. Helps service providers, parents, and systems recognize and respond to the needs of children who experience trauma.
  2. Enhances the effectiveness of child-serving systems by promoting a common language.
  3. Everyone in a child’s life has a role to play.
  4. Supports the capacity of adults to cope with their own responses to trauma.
  5. Receiving increased attention and recognition from policymakers about the importance of promoting these practices.
