Foster Care & Kinship Care: Common Questions About Events

What Is Foster Parent Training?

Foster parent training helps you learn what to expect when caring for a child who has experienced trauma. You’ll learn about safety, communication, emotions, and how to support children through change. Training gives you tools, confidence, and support—no experience needed. Many people attend training just to learn more before deciding.

Foster Care & Kinship Care: Understanding Your Options

Kinship caregivers (relatives or close family friends caring for a child they know) follow a similar training pathway as foster parents, but with additional support personalized for their situation. Whether you’re pursuing traditional foster care or stepping into kinship care, NewPath provides guidance, training, and resources every step of the way.

Exploring Foster Parenting? Here’s What to Expect.

It’s completely normal to have questions or feel unsure. Our introductory training helps you understand licensing requirements, what supports you’ll receive, and how NewPath partners with you through trauma‑informed care, ongoing training, and 24/7 support. Many families start simply by attending a session to learn more—no commitment required.

Who Can Become a Foster Parent or Kinship Caregiver?

Foster parents and kinship caregivers can be single, married, working, renting, or homeowners. You only need to be 18 or older, have stable income, and have space in your home. We welcome people from all backgrounds, cultures, and family types.

Why Attend Training?

Training helps you decide if fostering or kinship care is the right path. You will meet NewPath team member(s), ask questions, and hear what real foster care looks like. You will learn about support services, financial assistance, and 24/7 help from our team.

What Happens After Training?

If you choose to move forward, our team guides you through the licensing steps every step of the way. We help with paperwork, home studies, background checks, and next steps—one step at a time. There is no pressure or obligation to continue. You move at your own pace.

Why Choose NewPath?

NewPath provides trauma‑informed training, coaching, and ongoing support. We build strong, lasting relationships with our families. We stay connected, answer questions, and celebrate every milestone with you. You are never alone on this journey.

Still Deciding? That’s Okay.

Many families explore foster care or kinship care before they feel fully ready. Attending training is a simple way to learn more and see if it’s a good fit. Our team is happy to talk, answer questions, and walk with you through the process.
