While so many are still soaking in that warm summer sun, NewPath Child & Family Solutions is busy preparing for the 2023-2024 school year. The phrase “back to school” may bring images of pencils, notebooks, backpacks, and more flooding into your mind. Even though NewPath’s students do require these items for class, they have greater needs than traditional school supplies.

Who needs your support?

NewPath Child & Family Solutions truly understands the impact something as simple as a pair of shoes can have on a child or teen in our care. Dae’Vonn* entered NewPath’s services about a year ago. He arrived at NewPath’s East Campus in just socks because his only pair of shoes had been ruined during his transition to safer living conditions. Overwhelmed by the emotional toll of the day, Dae’Vonn retreated to the surrounding tree line for a mental break.

A NewPath team member followed close behind to ensure his safety and provide the space he needed to process his feelings. Looking down and noticing Dae’Vonn’s socked feet, she said, “I’m ordering you new shoes.” He quickly turned his attention to her and asked when he could see them. Moments later, brand new sneakers in his size arrived on campus. It wasn’t just that the shoes were new. What Dae’Vonn found most meaningful was that he got to open the shoe box and pull the tags off himself. An experience that many take for granted but was one he never had before.

HOW CAN YOU MAKE AN IMPACT?

Many NewPath youth like Dae’Vonn don’t have access to basic needs such as personal care items and clean clothing. Due to financial and environmental challenges out of their control, NewPath students often miss out on the joy of receiving a new pair of shoes or outfit for the first day of school. A gift of $500 supports a classroom and helps further the education of community youth in need. YOU can provide back-to-school joy by investing in our students and giving the gift of normalcy.
