SJOKIDS and North College Hill School Team Up For Education and Mental Health
August 12, 2014
School started August 11 for students in the North College Hill School District, which promises a different educational experience for the children in specialized education classes. Collaborative planning by NCH and St. Joseph Orphanage has been underway since early 2014. St Joseph Orphanage, a comprehensive behavioral health agency serving Greater Cincinnati, will partner with the district to provide a continuum of services to meet the special needs of these students. St. Joseph Orphanage will staff two self contained classrooms, one for grades K-4 and one for grades 5-8. In addition, behavioral health groups, case management and therapy services will be available for those students identified at the elementary, middle and high school level.
This new collaboration allows St. Joseph Orphanage to embed services and providers specifically in the North College Hill School District, providing professional staff directly on the North College Hill Schools’ campus, while also providing an avenue for immediate handling of unforeseen situations.
“Counseling and behavioral support for referred students will be available during their school day,” commented Shari Renneker, Principal at NCH Elementary. “The students will receive a comprehensive program that combines structure and the teaching of essential social skills in a positive, supportive environment. We are optimistic that this new program will provide the extra services needed for the children to be successful this coming year!”
